This would probably be just a few hundred bucks. That might be about $2500-$3000.Īnd there are tons of simple and cheap things we could do, like this suggestion of having the cover sleeve printed on both sides, so that you have your choice of two possible covers, or so that when you open the Amaray case, a cool design is visible through the transparent case. In all, the extra authoring, replication of ~2000 extra discs, changes to packaging and assembly costs, and possible effects on shipping might run $6-8k.Īnother thing you might decide you want is a fancier Challenge Coin - say a larger one that's also a bottle-opener.

Well, one thing that you could do is decide to make it a 3-BD50 set, which would open up a lot of interesting possibilities, like doing some new music videos, putting the Data Archive on the disc, adding alternate subtitle tracks, and upping the bitrate on the OVAs. Let's conservatively estimate that we'll hit the $125k mark, and you'll have $12k to play with (split between Basic and Premium backers, but for now we'll assume there's just one pool for simplicity). If we get to $125k, it'll be ~$12,300, and at $150k, ~$19,500 - actually, probably slightly higher because we'll start to get some economies of scale. While at this point I can only make estimates (because there are some things I don't know, like how many of you are outside the USA, and how many of you will want extra sets), I have done a little spreadsheeting and come up with some very rough numbers - the real figures could easily be +/- 20%Īs things stand now, with about $112k raised from 1,557 backers, the excess budget (more than what's needed to provide what was promised in the KickStarter) is about $9000.

I understand your concerns, and my initial reaction was to be somewhat leery of the idea myself, but in the end I decided it doesn't make any sense to be concerned about the quality of the final product, based on the language of the pledge idea and common sense.Īs you know, one of the cool things about this project is that half the money raised goes into the production budget, and you get to decide how the extra money gets spent. "Okay, Steve, so, instead of spending 10 hours to do the work on your own, you get to babysit someone you've never met before who may not have any idea what they're doing, and it will take twice the time because it'll go slowly, you'll have to help the entire time, and you may have to redo some of the work afterwards." If AnimEigo were being budget conscious, they wouldn't be offering such a thing at all, because it's just going to take longer and make even more work for their own staff, regardless of how much online video editing experience the winners have, or how much of the work on a given video they end up doing. They're certainly not going to have a staff member give a winner a five-minute tutorial and then leave that winner completely alone until he or she is done, and then take whatever the final product is and slap it on the final master with no checking. It almost doesn't matter how much work the winners actually do, as far as earning the title of "editor" for a given video, since AnimEigo can credit people however they want, and whoever's doing the babysitting will likely still be credited with a more senior title like "Supervising Editor" or "Chief Editor" or something.

If anything, the winners may not even be in charge of doing a whole video, but rather just a small portion to get the full "experience." And/or possibly rather than doing every aspect of the work, they may end up just dragging already-selected clips around or something. Whoever happens to pledge for those is going to have an AnimEigo staffer looking over their shoulder the entire time, based on the wording. So if I'm understanding this CrowdProduction Hurricane Live HD thing accurately, six people pay AnimEigo for the opportunity to go in and do AnimEigo's job for them? Maybe it's just me and my inability to grasp the spirit of Kickstarter and/or "CrowdProduction," but it seems a little wrong to me for AnimEigo to profit off the work being put into this release, when those putting the work in are travelling and paying for accomodations on their own dime in addition to paying AnimEigo for this "opportunity." Well, whatever, I'm sure there are those that will jump at this.Īs far as whether I want to be funding/paying for a release that is partially in the hands of possible amateurs? Well, fingers crossed that each person does the best job possible with each respective video, I guess.I don't see AnimEigo profiting off of anything.
